West Molland Game Shooting Estate by Bettws Hall
Deep, tree clad valleys, with pastures and brooks running through the bottom, makes West Molland a picture perfect, high pheasant shoot. We meet in the morning for refreshments at Great Champson farmhouse and then head through the labyrinth of lanes to the first drive where it soon becomes apparent that the birds will be tall.
The Wood at West Molland is perhaps the most quintessential high pheasant drive in the Country. Guns stand in the open field with a conifer wood rising steeply in front. Birds then glide gracefully over the tree tops, flushed from the cover beyond. It is a spectacle to behold, but is just one of many drives which will test you on the day.
We generally shoot three drives in the morning with a break between each for champagne and sloe gin, followed by soup and sausages. The party can then either return to Great Champson for a hearty lunch with more sport in the afternoon, or shoot through if time and weather dictates.
“West Molland is among the finest and most famous shoots in the country, and offered our guests some very testing birds! The shooting estate consistently produces fantastic days shooting of the very highest standard and is fully deserving of its status as one of the finest shoots in the country.” Holland & Holland 2005
